Anxiety rarely waits for a convenient moment. It shows up in the car, at 2 a.m., or in the middle of an ordinary afternoon. The Bible doesn't pretend worry isn't real. Instead, it gives worried people somewhere to take it. Here are eight verses from the King James Version to read slowly when your mind won't settle, with a short note on each and a prayer you can pray today.
HEADING: The verses
1. Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)
"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Paul doesn't just say "stop worrying." He gives a path: turn each worry into a request, add thanks, and let God's peace stand guard over your heart and mind.
2. 1 Peter 5:7 (KJV)
"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."
"Casting" is an active word. You don't have to wait until you feel calm to hand a worry to God. You can throw it to Him right now, because He cares.
3. Isaiah 26:3 (KJV)
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."
Peace follows focus. When your mind is "stayed" (fixed) on God, it's harder for fear to take the wheel.
4. John 14:27 (KJV)
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
Jesus offers a peace that doesn't depend on circumstances going well. It's His own peace, given to troubled hearts.
5. Psalm 94:19 (KJV)
"In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul."
When your thoughts multiply, God's comforts can multiply too. This verse is honest about racing thoughts and hopeful about what calms them.
6. Matthew 6:34 (KJV)
"Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."
Much anxiety lives in tomorrow. Jesus invites you back to today, with only today's troubles to carry.
7. Psalm 55:22 (KJV)
"Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved."
A burden is something too heavy to carry alone. God promises to sustain you when you hand it over.
8. Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)
"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."
God's answer to fear is His presence: "I am with thee." He promises to strengthen, help and hold you up.
HEADING: A prayer for anxiety
Lord Jesus, my mind is racing and my heart won't settle. You know every thought before I think it, and none of this surprises you. Slow me down. Breathe your peace into this moment, and help me trust you with what I can't control. Amen.
HEADING: Putting it into practice
- Pick one verse and write it on a sticky note for your mirror or phone case.
- When worry starts, name it out loud to God and add one thing you're thankful for.
- Take five slow breaths while repeating Isaiah 26:3 in your head.
